Bebe McPhereson is a comedian, musician and performance artist.

Starting out her creative journey in Phoenix and rising to prominence in Tucson with the duo Bebe & Serge, she toured Europe before moving to Los Angeles and embarking on a solo career.

Bebe joins Brodie, Gene, Bob, and Libby for a barrage of audience questions and to chat about disgusting bandmates, public access television, getting kicked out of clubs, Quintron and Miss Pussycat, assisting hypnotists, the self-published R. Jermaine Schex romance “Yeltaw,” the old Phoenix club Mason Jar and its notorious owner Franco, Uncle Sku’s Clubhouse, and the late Baby Man.

Shakeytown Radio Hour: Ryan McKee and Ron Babcock (1 hr, 45 min)

Gene George is back from paternity leave! Libby Ward is new to the Shakeytown Radio team! Ron Babcock, who was our third-ever guest, returns for a second appearance! Ryan McKee visits from New York for his first Shakeytown Radio interview!

Before their success on the East and West Coasts, Ryan and Ron founded Modest Proposal, a comedy partnership with a magazine and live show, several years ago in Phoenix, Arizona. On this inebriated episode, Ryan talks about his forest service past and MTV.com present. Ron and Ryan recall their semester at sea, joining comedic forces and becoming zinesters, Brodie’s involvement with ModProp, and breaking up the band. Also, embarrassing personal stories about Ron, Ryan, Brodie, and all the romantic partners they fought with, or fought for, or fought over with each other.

Comedy of Broad Shoulders

Comedians You Should Know by the Comedians You Should Know - Available on iTunes

http://www.comediansyoushouldknow.com/home.html

Chicago has produced a ton of my favorite comics like Jimmys Pardo & Dore, a Graham Elwood, your Mike Schmidt, a Kyle Kinane and the inimitable Dan Telfer for example(s). Second City AND The Upright Citizen’s Brigade got their start there for Pete’s sake. Like those luminaries (and organizations) the guys who put together the Comedians You Should Know show really ARE comedians you should know.

Marty Derosa, Danny Kallas, Michael Sanchez, Joe Kilgallon, Mike Lebovitz, and Drew Michael are the eponymous Comedians behind Chicago’s own Comedians You Should Know show. They’ve been putting together their show for a couple of years now and have just released a comedy album recorded at the ABSURDLY AWESOMELY NAMED Timothy O’Toole’s pub. Simply put, it’s a taste of their weekly live show.

There’s a lot to like here for the comedy fan. The comedy ranges from the standard observations about sex, race relations, and booze, skittering along from raw observations to dark absurdist ranting and conveys the spirit and flavor of the city that has so many cliched nicknames that you should just go ahead and pick one of your own. Seriously I’m trying really hard here to NOT just run through the ninety SQUILLION monikers for Chicago.

Here’s a nickname for Chicago. America’s middle child. It’s in the middle of the USA, it’s about half as old as the cities in the original colonies. Jesus, no wonder you guys have such a goddam chip on your shoulder. Sure LA and San Fran get all the attention because we’re the cute younger kids. Your big brothers and sisters in NYC, Boston, and Philly made you drink pee once or whatever. You went through that phase where you cut up animals and set things on fire. WE GET IT. How many times do we have to say it: SERIOUSLY you guys are all right. No wonder so many great comics were raised or cut their teeth in Chicago, the city BY DEFINITION is a needy attention whoring middle child, at least you didn’t end up a stripper or god forbid in prison (yet.) Now that that’s out I feel a lot better.

Bottom line: get this via iTunes, it’s priced one penny under $10 the same price as the door for one of the live shows ($5 if you order tickets online). That’s cheap and it supports good DIY comedy. There’s some cussing’ and dick jokes. If you are easily offended and somehow avoided dying of apoplectic shock simply living amongst other human beings all this time there might be some humor that will make your rectum prolapse. To paraphrase Abe Lincoln, those that like this sort of comedy will find that this is the sort of comedy they like. If you are in Chicago or the near midwest environs where they have been doing road gigs you should see these comics.

I’d put a link to the iTunes store directly but Apple is too smart for their own good and just incestuously opens up iTunes.
