Will Stegemann on The Shakeytown Radio Hour

Will Stegemann (@betheboy) is the writer behind the Sentimental Accidents blog and a project called A Year Of Billy Joel. Will joins Gene and Brodie to discuss lots and lots of music, including Billy Joel, The Ramones, the late MCA and The Beastie Boys, as well as share stories and thoughts about murder, kidnapping, and Hitler. So, just the light topics this week.

Also, the music of Japanese punk band Sandy Beach Surf Coaster.

Angelina Elise is an artist, musician, and enthusiast of “Olde Time” aesthetics. She brings Jonny Mayo along for the ride to chat with Brodie and Bob about “bicycles, beer, cats and mustaches” and how they inform her art.

Also, bike culture in L.A., square dances, bartering, artist collectives, how Angelina and Brodie met during the days of shows at Hyperion Tavern, Brodie’s recent Twitter wars with self-described “conservatives,” Jonny’s creations as a machinist, and the music of Triple Chicken Foot, who will be leading an “Old Time Jam” at the artist reception for this Friday’s “Americana Hicksters,” an art show by Angelina being held at Jet Studios in Long Beach.

Bebe McPhereson is a comedian, musician and performance artist. 

Starting out her creative journey in Phoenix and rising to prominence in Tucson with the duo Bebe & Serge, she toured Europe before moving to Los Angeles and embarking on a solo career.

Bebe joins Brodie, Gene, Bob, and Libby for a barrage of audience questions and to chat about disgusting bandmates, public access television, getting kicked out of clubs, Quintron and Miss Pussycat, assisting hypnotists, the self-published R. Jermaine Schex romance “Yeltaw,” the old Phoenix club Mason Jar and its notorious owner Franco, Uncle Sku’s Clubhouse, and the late Baby Man.

Shakeytown Radio Minute: Marco

Our first episode with your friend and mine, Bob Schriner, as an official member of Team Shakeytown, is named after the late Marco Holt (pictured above). The first half is very funny as we wonder- outside music festivals: why? The second half is more reflective as we discuss the good folks we’ve lost the last month or so. Finally, we wrap up with a preview of our upcoming guests, and music from Marco’s most recent project before his passing, The Tremulants.
