Today at brodiehubbard.com, a few words about the passing of Dr. Joel Olson… zinester, punk rocker, anti-racist activist, political science professor, and one of the nicest and smartest guys I ever met.

According to TheHill.com, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is introducing a measure to “put the brakes on repeal of the military’s ban on openly gay troops.”
I talked to his Washington DC office today, who said the Congressman does not want stop the repeal DADT, only allow military chiefs to sign their approval (as it stands, the repeal only requires the approval of the president, the defense secretary and the Joint Chiefs chairman).
His El Cajon office, on the other hand, says Hunter is against the repeal, but that they were not aware of the specific legislation the Representative is planning to introduce.
I let both offices know, as a Californian, that I oppose any roadblock to giving gay and lesbian Americans the opportunity to serve their country if they wish, that Americans should have equal rights regardless of the gender of people with whom they seek romantic relationships.
I encourage my fellow Californians to also call in, and since Duncan Hunter sits on the House Armed Services Committee, really, any citizen from any state should feel free to contact him.

El Cajon office - (619) 448-5201

On Monday, we’ll be releasing our conversation with Jimmy Dore. Here is a quick minute between mic breaks that won’t be part of the edited episode, where we were discussing how the current state of political discourse has fatigued people to the point of disengaging from the dialogue.

jenkirkman:

Some of the comments in this article bum me out. I hate this macho attitude towards meat. And I hate this attitude that singers and other artists should shut up and not be political or socio-political.

‎Jen Kirkman with a few words on vegetarianism and the right - nay, the duty - of artists to speak up on what they believe in.
